Course Structure:
Textbook:
- John Hunter and Bruno Nachtergaele, "Applied Analysis". May be downloaded
at "http://www.math.ucdavis.edu/~hunter/book/pdfbook.html"
Syllabus: This course will cover classical notions in
applied functional analysis: description of functional spaces such as
Banach spaces and Hilbert spaces; description of some properties of
linear operators acting on such spaces such as the notion of
compactness and the spectral decomposition of compact operators.
Applications, mostly to the solution of partial differential
equations, will be considered.
Grading:
There will be several homeworks, roughly every other week, during
the course of the semester. This homeworks will count for 30% of
the final grade.
There will be a midterm and a final exam that will count for 30%
and 40% of the final grade, respectively.
