DEADLINES
Diagnostic Exam
Students can pick up the exam starting September 16. All new students must complete the take-home diagnostic exam and return it to their faculty advisor by Friday, September 20. Your advisor will need time to review your exam before approving your course registration. If you cannot find your advisor, return your exam to Keisha Prowoznik in Jones 222A.
Required for: all new students

Course Registration
New and returning students should meet with advisors, register online, and turn in advisor-approved paper registration forms to Keisha Prowoznik in Jones 222A no later than Friday, September 27, at noon.
Required for: all students

Online Orientation for International Students
New international students must complete the online orientation offered by the Office of International Affairs no later than Monday, September 30. See OIA’s website for details.

Orientation Meeting for Incoming PhD Students
11:00 am–Noon
Location: Jones 304
Prof. Steven Lalley and Student Affairs Specialist Keisha Prowoznik will provide an overview of the PhD academic program and give a brief tour of the student office.
Required for: all new PhD students

IT Informational Session
Noon–12:45 pm
Location: Eckhart 133
Ed Friedman, John Zekos, and Mitzi Nakatsuka will explain computational resources in the Department of the Statistics and across campus.

Library Resources Information Session

Jennifer Hart, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science Librarian, will give an overview of library services and resources available to all students.

Tuesday, September 24
Dean of Students Welcome Breakfast
10:00 am—11:00 am
Location:Quadrangle behind Eckhardt Research Center
PSD Dean of Students will host new PSD students for breakfast. After breakfast, students will be led to the Graduate Student orientation.

Graduate Student Orientation
11:30 am–7:30 pm
Location: Main Quad, Rockefeller Chapel, and Ida Noyes
UChicago GRAD will host grad students from across campus in an opening procession, a welcoming convocation, lunch, an information fair, and a social. See UChicago GRAD's website for specific sessions and locations and to register (required).

Our student photographers will take pictures of any students who missed the Monday photo shoot.

Teaching and Learning in the Multicultural Classroom

Laura Demchuck will offer a TA training workshop focusing on teaching in a multicultural classroom.

UChicagoGRAD: Career Development and Fellowships
1:30 pm—2:15 pm

Director of GRAD Career Development and Employer Relations Michael Tessel, Assistant Director of GRAD Career Development Josephine Cai, and Director of Fellowships Karen Rosenthall will present UChicagoGRAD resources for career development and fellowships. Instructional and Administrative Support Specialist Kirsten Wellman will present Department career resources.

Fire Safety Training

Kimberly Mormann, Laboratory Safety Specialist, will give a fire safety training presentation.

Second-year PhD Students Orientation Meeting
